First Nations Bailai Gurang Gooreng Gooreng Taribelang Bunda People Development Corporation ready for renewables.

First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda Peoples Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (PBC) is investigating opportunities to be part of the renewables transition. This is one of the first initiatives of the recently established First Nations Bailai Gurang Gooreng Gooreng Taribelang Bunda People Development Corporation.

The PBC recently signed an exclusivity agreement with renewable energy developer, builder, owner & operator European Energy to investigate opportunities to develop wind and solar generation sites in Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Taribelang Bunda people’s traditional country, with Fortescue, a global green energy, metals, and technology company operating in Gladstone, as a potential off-taker.

“We are thrilled to support the Traditional Owners of Gladstone explore how they could get involved in the energy transition. We are eager to leverage our capability in renewable energy development, EPC, financing and operating to turn any viable options identified into successful projects” said Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for European Energy in Australia.

Outgoing PBC Chair Matt Cooke, said, “Collaborating with European Energy to explore wind and solar opportunities on our traditional country marks a new era in our relationship with major industry and the private sector. It demonstrates that we as traditional owners have aspirations to participate in economic development beyond the narrow lens of native title. We look forward with great anticipation to progressing this relationship and commercial opportunities”.

European Energy is a well-established successful global renewables company expanding into Australia, with over 5 GW under active development in Australia and a further 3 GW in screening.

Fortescue is a global green energy, metals, and technology company.
